MAJELLA: The Mother of the Mountains

Doing ski mountaineering in Abruzzo, placed halfway between Rome and the Adriatic Sea, might sound strange; but the vast, isolated and little-frequented mountains, the infinite spaces with the sea view and the hospitality of this Italian region will literally make you falling in love! The shapely Majella mountains do not reach the grandeur of the Alps but they are offering everything that a demanding and complete ski mountaineer is looking for: large differences in altitude, steep slopes, couloirs, but also gentle and funny excursions with moderate slopes and a satisfying sea view once reaching the top. In short, pure fun! The biodiversity and pristine environments of these mountains are protected by the Majella National Park. They are home to a typical wildlife which is often visible even nearby the villages: the Abruzzo wolf and the Marsican bear add charm to a unique environment. The cherry on top of this ski mountaineering journey is the typical cuisine that offers simple and genuine dishes with excellent wines! A real 5 star trip!

Travel program

DAY 1: gathering of the participants in Cuneo at 8.00 AM at the Globalmountain Alpine Guides headquarter or at the airport; transfer by minibus equipped with ski rack for a trip of about 8 hours to Caramanico Terme; accommodation and dinner at the Ede Hotel.

DAY 2: after a short transfer to the Saint Nicolao village, the ski mountaineering journey in Maiella starts with an excursion to Monte Rapina (2027m asl); an optimal itinerary for approaching these mountains, then we will descent on the broad slopes of the northern side.

DAY 3: Excursion to the majestic Monte Amaro (2793m asl) along the Rava della Giumenta Bianca, one of the classical itineraries in the Apennines!

DAY 4: transfer to Passo di Lanciano from which we will start, next to the Majelletta ski resorts, to climb to the summit of the Blockhaus which in German means "house of stones" (2145m asl). From the top we will make a good skiing of about 300m down to the Di Marco refuge and subsequent ascent from which the beautiful and pleasant final skiing takes place.

DAY 5: a nice end with the trip to Monte Pescofalcone (2657m asl) passing through the Rava del Ferro, a sinuous itinerary in a Dolomitic environment that offers an exceptional view of the Majella massif and unforgettable skiing.

DAY 6: quick visit to the town of Pescara and return to Cuneo.

Ski mountaineering in the Maritime Alps: Valle Stura

  •   Dates to be defined
The Stura Valley: one of the most enchanting corners of the Maritime and Cottian Alps, an ideal environment for those who love ski mountaineering! In winter, the valley transforms into a true paradise for ski mountaineering!!! Thanks to its territorial conformation, this valley offers opportunities for everyone, beginners and experts, to ski on winter and spring snows with trips of varying difficulty. The ideal destination for those looking for an adventure far from mass tourism to discover still wild corners!!! The “ski de randonnée” also goes beyond the Colle della Maddalena, which remains a good alternative when the snow conditions are not optimal on the Italian side. Our choice is to base ourselves in Sambuco, at the Osteria della Pace, where, in addition to the delicious cuisine and a very varied wine list, you can relax in the hotel SPA after long ski mountaineering trips.

Monte Rosa Freeride

  •   09 - 11 January 2026
Monte Rosa is the temple of Freeride: wide lands, an infinite variety of slopes of different technical levels suitable for all, from the beginner to the steep skiing lover; modern ski lifts that allow the skier to fully enjoy the ski day. If it is true that the well-known “Monte Rosa Tour” is today partly affected by ski lifts, the modern Punta Indren lift station leads you in a short time up to an altitude of 3200 m and lets you reach the wide slopes to Gressoney (such as to Lys Valley) or to Alagna, throughout couloirs, glaciers, isolated valleys surrounded by steep sides.
